The Clever Girl and the King
Once upon a time, an Armenian king was known for setting riddles to his subjects. One day, he announced: “Whoever answers my riddle shall marry the prince. Fail, and you will lose your life.”
The riddle was this: “What is the strongest and the softest thing in the world, and what is the lightest and the heaviest?”
Many wise men tried and failed, but a humble shepherd’s daughter came forward. She answered:
“The strongest and the softest is a woman’s heart — for it can endure great pain and still remain kind. The lightest and the heaviest is a promise — for it costs nothing to make but can weigh on you for a lifetime.”
The king was so impressed by her wisdom that he not only let her marry the prince but also appointed her as his royal adviser.
This tale celebrates wisdom, humility, and the quiet strength of thought over status.
